Best Power Supplies 2022

Best Power Supplies 2022

The power supply of your PCs (or PSU), depending on its performance, plays a significant role in determining your system’s reliability. So while picking the right PSU for your system, it would be best if you are being careful.

In case, if something goes wrong with your electricity supply or other components, there should also be some features in your power supply which could save your system’s parts including the power supply itself; and if it doesn’t, it’s clearly not the best power supply for your other expensive PC parts that would be at risk.

However, we’ve listed some of the PSUs that will offer you the best reliability, performance and protection for your system and its components.

  1. CORSAIR CX450

The best Cheap PSU ($60/£60 or less)

Specifications:

  • Manufacturer (OEM): Channel Well Technology / Great Wall
  • Max. DC Output: 450W
  • Efficiency: 80 PLUS Bronze, Cybernetics Bronze (CWT), Cybernetics Silver (GW)
  • Noise: Cybernetics A- (CWT, 20-25 dBA), Cybernetics Standard+ (GW, 35-40 dBA)
  • Form Factor: ATX12V v2.4, EPS 2.92
  • Cooling: 120mm Rifle Bearing Fan (HA1225M12F-Z or D12SM-12 )
  • Modular: No
  • Connectors: 1x EPS, 1x PCIe
  • Warranty: 5 years

Advantages:

  • It comes at a low price.
  • It provides you with the full set of protection features.
  • It has a great soldering quality.
  • It has a rifle bearing fan.
  • It gives a five-year warranty.

Disadvantages:

  • Its single PCIe connector limits expansion.
  • It is not as quiet as the CWT-made CX450.
  • It has a short distance between peripherals connectors.

The Great Wall version is more efficient than CWT’s when compared between the two variants of Corsair’s CX450 especially under light loads, and the more efficient 5VSB rail. On the other side, its noise output is increased as it has a more-aggressive fan profile. Also it avoids the tariffs and keeps its price tag low as it’s made in Vietnam instead of China and hence you will find only the CWT version in the US market.

  1. CORSAIR RM550X

The best PSU: Up to 550 Watts

Specifications:

  • Manufacturer (OEM): CWT
  • Max. DC Output: 550W
  • Efficiency: 80 PLUS Gold, Cybernetics Gold
  • Noise: Cybernetics A+ (15-20 dBA)
  • Form Factor: ATX12V v2.4, EPS 2.92
  • Cooling: 140mm Magnetic Levitation Fan (NR140ML)
  • Modular: Yes
  • Connectors: 1x EPS, 2x PCIe
  • Warranty: 10 years

Advantages:

  • It gives high overall performance.
  • It provides silent operation.
  • It is highly efficient at light load.
  • It has a magnetic Levitation fan.
  • It is fully modular.
  • It gives a 10-year warranty.

Disadvantages:

  • It has cable capacitors.
  • It has a single EPS connector.
  • It has a small distance between peripheral connectors.

Despite being one of the quietest PSUs in the 550W category, the new RM550x is also the smallest member of the new RMx line that gets updated with a top-notch magnetic levitation fan and the overall noise output is not affected by it. However, most folks will be more than satisfied with the connection options, still it would be nice if a second EPS connector is being added by Corsair in this unit.

  1. XPG CORE REACTOR 650W

The best PSU: Up to 650 Watts

  • Modular: Fully
  • Connectors: 2x EPS, 4x PCIe
  • Warranty: 10 years

Advantages:

  • It gives full power at 47 degrees Celsius.
  • It gives high performance.
  • It is efficient.
  • It gives silent operation.
  • It has good build quality.
  • It is pretty compatible with the alternative sleep mode.
  • It is fully modular.

Disadvantages:

  • It has two EPS connectors on the same cable.
  • Its transient response at 3.3V could be better.

With 650W max power, the XPG Core Reactor may achieve higher overall performance (with similar capacity) than the Corsair RM650x, and the Seasonic Focus Plus Gold which are the two hottest picks in this category. Despite its compact dimensions, thanks to the relaxed fan profile that it has a silent operation as well. It has a high build quality; plus it provides a warranty that meets the offerings of the competition. Finally, with an all-in-all excellent power supply, the two EPS connectors after being installed on dedicated cables, provide compatibility with the high-end mainboard.

  • Its APFC converter needs some fine-tuning.
  • It has a small distance between connectors.

An OEM that isn’t widely known, launched an impressive product— the Cooler Master V750 Gold  which is the only one to use this OEM, Gospower, so far. This V750 manages to surpass tough opponents such as the new Corsair RM750x and the EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G6, giving an overall performance that achieves the top of the line. However, it seems that the Cooler Master’s power team is on the right track again as it has been the first time in many years for a Cooler Master PSU to top our charts.
